The Health and Social Care Act (2001) extended the powers of the local authority's councillors to that of reviewing and scrutinising the local NHS in context of national regulations. From this process the OSC are able to put forward reports and to make recommendations for local NHS developments.
The activities of NHS Leicestershire County and Rutland are reviewed and scrutinised by Leicestershire and Rutland County Councils.
