Joint Strategic Needs Assessment (JSNA)

The Local Government and Public Involvement in Health Act (2007) places a joint statutory duty on upper tier local authorities and Primary Care Trusts (PCTs) to undertake a JSNA for their area.

The JSNA is a process that identifies the current and projected health and wellbeing needs of the local population. The JSNA is a key building block in enabling the understanding of the needs of local people. It contains our collective intelligence about local health and well being need, and forms a key element of Leicestershire Together's overall understanding of community need outlined in the Sustainable Community Strategy (SCS). The JSNA is designed to underpin the commissioning priorities and strategic plans of the Local Authority and Local NHS. Specifically it should be used to inform the Sustainable Community Strategy, the Local Area Agreement and the NHS Operating Plan.
