Department of Health annual report

The Department of Health has published its 18th annual report. It provides a comprehensive overview of spending and investment programmes and of the system reforms accompanying this investment.

The report also sets out the Department’s plans for future years. In particular, this focuses on activities and improvements planned for 2008-09. The October 2007 Comprehensive Spending Review (CSR 2007) sets the future financial context for health and social care.

Progress measurement

This report from East Midlands Development Agency (EMDA) shows progress against the targets set out in the Regional Economic Strategy (RES) performance management framework.

Overall improvements are reported against a clear majority of the indicators used in the RES performance management framework. Notable improvements have been made in relation to the Regional Index of Sustainable Environmental Wellbeing (R-ISEW) and key employment and skills measures.

Disease prevalence modelling

As part of the 2007/8 Local Delivery Plan (LDP) process, the Association of Public Health Observatories (APHO) was commissioned by the Department of Health to produce expected prevalence of chronic diseases. Models have been developed for the following disease areas: hypertension, coronary heart disease, diabetes, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. Further models are planned for chronic kidney disease, mental illness, cancer and dementia.
