Winter safety
All agencies in Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland are working together during the cold weather to keep people safe and the local area moving.
- Only visit A&E in a genuine emergency. There may well be an alternative place you can get treatment, such as a walk-in centre, minor injury unit, GP or pharmacy. More...
- If you have to venture out, please remember to wear suitable footwear and clothing.
- Frozen water is not safe and you should keep off it at all times. If you are walking your pets, avoid doing this around frozen water or make sure your dog is kept on a lead.
Drivers
Find out which routes are gritted and stick to main roads where possible. Information on routes can be found on the Leicestershire County Council website.
Adapt your driving style to the conditons, and remember that conditions can change very quickly. If they are hazardous, consider if your journey is really necessary. If it is, allow extra time to reach your destination, be aware of other vehicles and avoid braking sharply. More advice on driving in winter can be found on the Leicestershire Constabulary website.
