Single Equality Scheme 2009 - 2012

The organisation is committed to developing an integrated approach to Equality, Diversity and Human Rights (EDHR) in employment and to provide services that recognise, respect and respond to the diversity of our local communities.

The Single Equality Scheme (SES) is a start to incorporating and considering the different inequality issues faced by the community, we serve. It is a holistic approach to tackling unlawful discrimination and improves the experience of excluded and under-represented groups in services and employment.

There are seven equality strands covering:

  • The Race Relations (Amendment) Act 2000
  • Disability Discrimination Act 2005
  • Sex Discrimination Act as amended by the Equality Act 2006

The SES also sets out an action plan for the next three years; including the six equality strands; disability, race, gender, age, religion and belief, and sexual orientation. The summary version of te scheme is available to download as a PDF document along with an easy read version:

We will endeavour to take full account of disabled people's requirements including learning disabilities related to the way they manage their disabilities, promote positive attitudes towards disabled people, and to encourage participation by disabled people in public life.
