GP consortia
The transfer of the planning and buying of most health services from Primary Care Trusts such as NHS Leicester City and NHS Leicestershire County and Rutland to consortia of local GPs was announced by the Government last year in its White Paper, ‘Liberating the NHS: Equity and Excellence'.
Local GPs have decided that there should be one shadow consortium covering the city and two consortia covering Leicestershire and Rutland (North and West Leicestershire Consortium and Crescent Consortium) during the transition period.

We will publish the list of practices in the City Consortium as soon as they become available.
North and West Leicstershire Consortium and Crescent Consortium have been named as GP Pathfinders. Find out more in this news release.
The Government's reforms aim to put patients at the heart of the NHS - giving them greater choice and control over their care. By giving GPs responsibility for planning and buying services, power is shifting to the professionals who have the most contact with patients and best understand their needs.
